Test your bone density & bone fragility

NEW ERA IN BONE DENSITOMETRY - European technology in Australia

R.E.M.S.® Technology

Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry

REMS, or Radio Frequency Echographic Multi-Spectrometry, is a cutting-edge technology, developed in Europe, that uses safe ultrasound waves to accurately measure bone mineral density (BMD), providing comprehensive clinical data including BMD, T-score, and Z-score, and Fragility Score. The REMS clinical report is shared only with the patient and their nominated clinician. Echolight Australia will ask permission to use de-identified data for research to contribute to the better understanding of bone diseases in Australia.

Osteoporosis the 'silent' condition

Osteoporosis is a condition which results in a reduction in skeletal bone mass and weakening of bone structure(1). This leads to bones becoming thin and fragile so that even minor injuries, such as a
bump or minor accident, could result in a broken bone or fracture.

Osteopenia is another bone condition where the Bone Mineral Density of the bone is lower than expected but has not yet progressed to osteoporosis. Whilst fracture is lower vs osteoporosis, it is still important to know, monitor and manage(2).

Osteoporosis is often called a silent condition as diagnosis is often missed due to a lack of symptoms. It is generally only identified following a break or fracture of a bone. The good news is that the effects of osteoporosis, although serious, can be reduced(2).

Bone Mineral Density or BMD is a score which reflects how dense the matrix is within your bone and is usually represented as a value in g/cm2 and as a T-score.

BMD can be measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and now also by Radio Frequency Echographic Multi-Spectrometry (REMS / Echolight).

It is very important to know your BMD and to periodically re-test if you have low BMD, or if your medical situation changes.

Fragility Score

– unique to Echolight. To help make an informed decision towards the best bone management plan for you.

Echolight and REMS technology have gone an important clinical step further.  It is very important to know your BMD but it is also important to know the strength of the bone matrix.  Experts have developed an additional analysis of the ultrasound signal pattern so that the Intelligent software is able to calculate a Fragility Score

This Fragility Score is an indication of the quality of the bone microarchitecture(3) & gives your Doctor further information about your bone health.  This adds useful clinically information to help your Doctor make an informed decision towards the best bone management plan for you.
